Jessica Gott, Webster hit home runs in doubleheader sweep

HILLSBORO, Oregon – The Logger softball team swept their doubleheader with Pacific on Saturday evening. Puget Sound won the first game, 5-2, in nine innings, before earning a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.  

Jessica Gott led the way for the Loggers (5-4, 2-1 NWC), going 5-for-9 in the two games, including a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning which proved the difference in the first game. Kaitlyn Webster (1-for-8) also hit a home run, driving in two runs. Kristi Nagamine (3-for-7) recorded two runs batted in, while Jenna Llamas (1-for-8), Erica Gott (3-for-9), and Haley Gray (3-for-6) all drove in a run on the day.

Puget Sound 5, Pacific 2 (9 innings)

Pacific (2-12, 0-4 NWC) jumped on top, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Loggers tied things up. After Jessica Gott singled, Kaitlyn Webster hammered a pitch over the left field fence for her first career home run. Later in the inning, a one hour rain delay occurred.

After returning to play, neither team was able to muster any runs, and the two teams moved into extra innings. In the top of the ninth inning, Kristi Nagamine led off with a single, and Amber Popovich followed that up with a single of her own. After two fielder's choices, Jessica Gott came up to bat with two Loggers on base. Gott sent a pitch over the center field wall for her first home run of the season, giving Puget Sound a 5-2 lead. The Loggers played solid defense in the bottom of the half, not allowing a base runner, to clinch the victory.

Jaci Young (2-1) earned the complete game victory, throwing 9.0 innings. She gave up two runs, while striking out three batters.  

Puget Sound 6, Pacific 4

The Loggers took an early lead in the second game, going up 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Jessica Gott. Pacific answered back in the bottom of the first to tie the game, 1-1, but Puget Sound again took the lead in the second inning when Nagamine hit a two RBI single.

In the fifth inning, the Loggers increased their lead to 4-1, when Haley Gray hit a RBI groundout to score Erica Gott. Pacific again responded, narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Puget Sound added two runs on an RBI groundout by Jenna Llamas and a RBI single by Erica Gott in the sixth inning. The Boxers were able to get one run back in the sixth, but the Loggers ultimately pulled out the win.

Erica Gott (2-2) earned the complete game victory for the Loggers. She gave up four runs (three earned) while striking out three.
