Softball gears up for four games at SCIAC teams

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team heads back to California for four games against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams this weekend. The Loggers take on Pomona-Pitzer in doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. Puget Sound battles at Whittier for two games Sunday, Feb. 18, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Completely Stern

Kasey Stern a complete game during the Loggers' 3- 2 home win over Northwest (Feb. 10), and she did not yield an earned run. So far this young season, Stern has allowed just two earned runs in nine innings (1.56 ERA).

 

Gott to have it

Erica Gott is tied for the Northwest Conference lead in doubles with four this season. She had five doubles in all of 2017.

 

Going, going, gone

Two Loggers have cleared the outfield fences so far this season. Haley Gray homered at Occidental (Feb. 3), and Marissa Oda homered at home against Northwest (Feb. 10).

 

The NWC's Pearl

Freshman Mackensie Pearlstein currently ranks second in the NWC for batting average, as she's hitting .533 through six games. She collected three hits in a game against Northwest (Feb. 10), and had two-hit games against Marymount California (Feb. 4) and Occidental (Feb. 3).

 

Scouting Pomona-Pitzer (0-0) and Whittier (2-3-1)

This Saturday marks the first games of the season for the Sagehens. A preseason poll of SCIAC head coaches predicts that Pomona-Pitzer will finish last in the conference, but Whittier is expected to finish third. The Poets have already played four games against Northwest Conference teams this season. Whittier went 1-1 against Lewis & Clark, and 0-2 against George Fox. Danica Cooley has homered twice for the Poets.
