WHITTIER, California – Marissa Oda crushed her second home run of the season and drove in three runs, but the Puget Sound lost two games Whittier Sunday afternoon, 7-0 and 8-6.
The Loggers (2-7-1) entered the top of the seventh inning of the second game in an 8-2 hole, but Oda's leadoff homer to right-center field sparked a late comeback bid for Puget Sound.
Lia Nakamoto followed Oda's homer by drawing a walk, and Mackensie Pearlstein promptly singled to right field. Jenna Llamas loaded the bases with a single of her own, and Jessica Gott drove in Nakamota with a base hit.
Erica Got earned a bases-loaded walk to make it an 8-5 game, and Amber Popovich walked with two out outs and the bases loaded to keep the rally alive. Oda stepped into the batter's box once more in the seventh inning. The sophomore got a hold of another one, but the ball came down just short of the left-field fence for a fly out to end the game.
Erica Gott finished the afternoon with two doubles, and her six doubles so far this season leads the Northwest Conference.
The Loggers begin their NWC schedule by hosting Linfield for consecutive doubleheaders starting Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12 p.m.
