TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball kept pace with Linfield in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader on Logger Softball Field, but the Wildcats proved to be offensive force in the second game.
Puget Sound 1, Linfield 5
The Wildcats (4-3, 2-0 NWC) claimed a 3-0 lead through 2.5 innings, but the Loggers (2-9-1, 0-2 NWC) put a run on the board in the home half of the third inning.
Amber Popovich stood on first base with two outs when Jessica Gott singled through the left side to move Popovich up 60 feet. Erica Gott delivered another two-hit, plating Popovich for the Loggers' only run of the game.
Jessica Gott went the distance in the circle, allowing four earned runs on nine hits. She was also the only Logger to finish with multiple hits (2-for-3).
Puget Sound 4, Linfield 17 (5 inn.)
Linfield launched three home runs, including a pair of grand slams, to beat the Loggers in five innings.
Puget Sound loaded the bases with two hots in the bottom of the third inning, and Camille Goo smacked a two-run single to put the Loggers on the board.
Goo came through again with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, drawing a walk to force in a run. Abby Brondos' bloop single to left field with the bases full provided the final run of the game.
The Loggers and Wildcats conclude their weekend series with a doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 25, starting at 12 p.m.
