Puget Sound honors seniors, Wallace Pool in final home meet

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound swim teams competed against crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran for the last-ever Logger swim meet in Wallace Pool. The Loggers also honored their senior members competing in the final home meet: Sam Anders, Auri Clark, Bri Greenwood, Zander Biro, Matthew Davis, Matt Goldberg, and Keven Henley.


The Logger women lost to the Lutes, 190-53, and the men came up short, 146-97.

For the Puget Sound women, Aza Verhoeven took second place in the 200 backstroke (2:33.02) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:12.11). Clark finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:08.60), and the senior took fourth in both the 200 butterfly (2:39.90) and 200 individual medley (2:39.27).

The 200 medley relay team comprised of Anders, Clark, Anne Shirey, and Erin Jenkins finished second with a time of 2:08.85.

On the men's side, Nick Mitchell won the 200 freestyle by touching the wall in 1:56.89. The sophomore also won the 400 freestyle (4:10.49), and placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:14.77). Henley won the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.49, and the senior also placed first in the 50 freestyle (24.96) while adding a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.77). Caleb Van Boven took second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.09.

The 400 freestyle relay team came away with a win (3:40.74) thanks to Mitchell, Henley, Goldberg, and Jaycob Davies.

The Northwest Conference Championships begin on Friday, Feb. 12.
