FOREST GROVE, Oregon – The University of Puget Sound women's and men's swim teams competed at the Northwest Conference Relays on Saturday morning. The men, women, and combined teams all placed third in the competition. The men's 600-yard freestyle relay team won its event.
The Puget Sound mixed 200-yard medley relay team, made of Aza Verhoeven, Anne Shirey, Evan Hamamoto, and Mitch Kilgore, placed fourth (1:49.84) to begin the day. In other combined team events, the 200 freestyle team (Erin Jenkins, Sylas Cole, Kayla DiMicco, Kilgore) was third (1:36.42); and the 400 freestyle relay team (Jenkins, Kilgore, Kayli Brown, Jaycob Davies) finished in second place (3:34.67).
On the women's side, the 300-yard butterfly team, made of Calista Skog, DiMicco, and Kelli Callahan, placed second (3:07.59). The 600 freestyle (Skog, DiMicco, Kristian Kotchik) and 300 medley (Callahan, Shirey, Skog) teams each placed third, while the 300-yard backstroke team (Verhoeven, Maddie Kriz, Alex Koga) was fourth. The 300 breaststroke relay team (Shirey, Austin Stiver, Callahan) finished in fifth.
The Loggers' 600-yard freestyle relay team on the men's side place first. The team, which finished the race in 5:26.02, was made up of Davies, Dylan Reimers, and Nick Mitchell. Other teams which placed for the men included the 300 butterfly (Cole, Evan Lebakken, Mitchell) and 300 medley (Cole, Reimers, Caleb Van Boven), which both placed second. The 300 backstroke team (Reimers, David Olson, Lebakken) was third, and the 300 breaststroke team (Van Boven, Cody Dodge, Kade Wagers) finished fifth.
Pacific Lutheran won the competition on both the men's and women's side, as well as in the combined results.
The Loggers will next begin its Northwest Conference dual meet schedule on Friday, November 4. The meet against Lewis & Clark is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
