Loggers honor senior swimmers in final home meet of season

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's and women's swim teams honored its senior members before the final home meet of the year on Saturday afternoon in Wallace Pool. The Logger women beat Whitworth, 104.5-100.5, but the men lost, 136-69.

Prior to the start of Saturday's dual, the Loggers paid homage to seniors Anne Shirey, Evan Hamamoto, Justin Huynh, David Olson, and Brian Parker.

Shirey took third place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.90), and she placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (26.65). Shirey, Aza Verhoeven, Calista Skog, and Kelli Callahan teamed up to finish second in the 400 medley relay (4:13.65).

Skog won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:18.84, and she placed second in the 200 individual medley by touching the wall in 2:19.02. Callahan also earned an individual victory by finishing the 200 freestyle in 2:02.40.

On the men's side, Hamamoto placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.87, and Olson took second in the 200 butterfly by timing in at 2:03.03. Huynh took fifth in the latter event (2:14.04).

The Loggers next compete at crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Jan. 28, before the Northwest Conference Championships starting on Feb. 10.
