Coach Jamie Carlson enters his first year as a member of the Loggers Track & Field coaching staff, where he will lead the throws and pole vault groups.
Jamie joins the Puget Sound program from Massachusetts, where he spent the past four years as part of the Amherst College coaching staff. Before that, he graduated from Bridgewater State University with a degree in Physical Education and a concentration in Coaching, competing in the combined events. As a student-athlete, Jamie was a three-time All-New England performer in the decathlon and a two-time conference champion in the pole vault as a member of the Bears.
After graduating, Jamie began his coaching career at his alma mater during the 2019–2020 season, working with the pole vault and javelin before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. During the pandemic, he returned home to Vermont, volunteering at his former high school, Mount Mansfield Union, where he helped guide the girls’ team to its first state championship in over 15 years.
Most recently, from 2021 to 2025, Jamie served at Amherst College of the NESCAC, specializing in the pole vault, javelin, and multi-events. During his tenure, he helped athletes set new men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor pole vault records as well as the women’s javelin record. His athletes earned multiple conference titles, All-Conference honors, and NCAA qualifying marks.
Jamie recently moved to Tacoma with his wife, Camille, and is excited to help build a strong Loggers program founded on excellence, dedication, and a commitment to growth both on and off the track.
