TACOMA, Washington – Katy Ainslie logged her second double-double of the season as the Puget Sound women's basketball team picked up its first Northwest Conference win of the season with a 68-43 home victory over Willamette on Friday night.
Ainslie scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the winning effort, while three other Loggers also scored in double-figures. Amanda Forshay matched Ainslie's game-high 15 points, and Allie Wyszynski matched her season-high with 12 points. Emily Sheldon netted 10 points after shooting 4-for-8 from the floor
The Bearcats (5-7, 0-3 NWC) held a 25-24 lead late in the first half, but the Loggers (10-1, 1-1 NWC) closed on the opening period with a 6-2 run, capped off by a layup from Sheldon at the halftime buzzer to give Puget Sound a 30-27 lead.
The Logger defense frustrated Willamette in the second half as Puget Sound limited the Bearcats to just 16 points on 21.4 percent (6-for-28) from the floor in the final period. Puget Sound held a 39-33 lead before going on a 17-3 run through a nine-and-a-half minute span. A free-throw by Alexis Noren gave the Loggers their first 20-point lead of the game, 56-36, with six minutes left in the game.
The Loggers continue their NWC schedule when they host Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
