Sheldon notches 20 in win over Athenas

CLAREMONT, California – Emily Sheldon scored 20 points for the second consecutive game as the Puget Sound women's basketball team defeated Claremont-M-S 76-67 in the David Wells Classic on Saturday evening.

A day after pacing the Loggers (4-2) with 22 points, Sheldon recorded 20 points, four steals, and two blocks to lead the squad. Alex Noren (12), Samone Jackson (13), Claire Fitzgerald (12), and Mikaela Limper (11) each scored in double-figures as well.

The two teams exchanged runs throughout the game. The Athenas (4-1) led 38-34 at halftime. Halfway through the third quarter, Jackson hit a three-pointer to give the Loggers a 47-45 lead. Puget Sound would never trail in the game again, eventually pulling away from CMS to give the Athenas' their first loss of the season.

Puget Sound shot 49.1 percent from the field, while CMS shot 43.6 percent. The Loggers were 5-for-11 (45.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Athenas were 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) on 3-point shots. Puget Sound was outrebounded 43-22.

Puget Sound will next play at Pacific Lutheran to begin Northwest Conference play on Tuesday, December 1 at 6 p.m.
