Noren and Sheldon score in double-figures as Loggers take down Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Washington – Alexis Noren and Emily Sheldon both score in double figures as the Puget Sound women's basketball team defeated NAIA foe Evergreen State 70-56 on Wednesday evening.

Noren led the way for the Loggers, recording 19 points, pulling down nine rebounds, and tallying six steals. Sheldon chipped in 16 points and five assists, scoring in double-figures for the fifth straight game.

After the Geoducks (1-6) held a 4-2 lead, the Loggers (6-3) rattled off a lay-up and then back-to-back three-pointers to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Puget Sound led by as much as 22 points during the game. Uriah Thomas (22 points) and Gabi Fenumiai (20 points) kept Evergreen State within striking distance, closing the gap to eight points with 9:25 to play in the fourth quarter. However, a pair of free throws by Sheldon and a three-pointer by Samone Jackson stopped the Geoduck momentum.

Puget Sound shot 38.6 percent (27-for-70) from the field, while Evergreen State shot 33.9 percent (20-for-59). The Loggers were 6-for-17 (35.3 percent) from beyond the arc. The Geoducks were 2-for-9 (22.2 percent) on 3-point shots. Puget Sound was outrebounded 50-33.

Puget Sound will next play in the Pacific Northwest Tournament at Pacific Lutheran. The team will first take on Illinois Wesleyan on Friday, December 18 at 6 p.m.
