Women's basketball set to host Bearcats and Pioneers

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball team is set to jump back into conference play when it hosts Willamette and Lewis & Clark this weekend.

Puget Sound's Last Games

The Loggers (6-5, 1-1 NWC) competed in the Pacific Northwest Tournament hosted by Pacific Lutheran on Dec. 18-19. The team fell 83-72 to Illinois Wesleyan, before dropping a close game to Chicago 88-85. Emily Sheldon averaged 19.5 points in the two games, while Alexis Noren scored in double figures in both games. Freshman Samone Jackson dropped a career-high 20 points in Saturday's game against Chicago.

Senior on fire

Emily Sheldon is currently scoring 20.2 points per game, which ranks first in the Northwest Conference. She has twice been named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week already this season. The senior dropped a career-high 34 points in the Loggers' 76-69 win in overtime at Pacific Lutheran earlier this year, before scoring 18 points in a loss at George Fox. Sheldon also adds 6.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.

Noren on board

Alexis Noren leads the Loggers, and is third in the league, for rebounding. The junior is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. She is averaging 13.6 ppg and has recorded three double-doubles this season, including 19 points and 12 rebounds during the Loggers' overtime win at PLU. Noren is also having an efficient season, shooting 52.3 percent, good for fourth in the NWC in field goal percentage.

Freshman making moves

Samone Jackson is averaging 9.8 points per game, while shooting 42.5 percent from behind the 3-point line. The freshman scored a career-high 20 points in the Loggers' last game.

Scouting the Bearcats (9-2, 1-1 NWC)

Willamette University is located in Salem, Oregon, and the team competes in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats have won their last five games, most recently defeating New Hope Christian 69-53. The team is scoring 67.6 points per game with a field goal percentage of 43.5. Kylie Towry (14.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg) leads the team in scoring, while Alex Wert (6.7 ppg, 6.2 rpg) leads the squad in rebounding.

Scouting the Pioneers (1-10, 0-2 NWC)

Lewis & Clark College is located in Portland, Oregon, and the team competes in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers most recently fell to Pomona-Pitzer (75-68) and Vanguard (85-66). The team is averaging 61.2 points per game with a field goal percentage of 38.6. Miyah Leith (15.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg) leads the squad in scoring, while Ayisat Afolabi (15.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg) also averages double figure points. Kaitlin Mathewson (8.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg) leads the team in rebounding.
