Prewitt nets 23 points as Loggers open Vegas trip with a win

LAS VEGAS, NevadaElizabeth Prewitt led all players with 23 points, and Alexis Noren broke into the Logger record books as the No. 23 Puget Sound women's basketball team opened the Classic in Las Vegas with a 76-47 win over Coe College on Wednesday afternoon.

Prewitt shot 11-for-17 from the floor and added six rebounds for the Loggers (9-1). Noren jumped into Puget Sound's top-10 career assist leaders, as the senior is now tied with Sarah Carnahan for 10th with 268 dimes. She scored 11 points with two assists and two boards against the Kohawks (5-6).

Samone Jackson scored 18 points while shooting 4-for-8 from 3-point range, and freshman Caitlin Malvar dished out seven assists to go with seven rebounds. Malvar tied a Classic record for assists in a game.

Jamie Lange continued to dominate the glass for Puget Sound. The freshman grabbed 13 rebounds in 17 minutes. Lange has 27 boards between her last two games, and has at least seven rebounds in four consecutive games.

The Loggers shot a season-best 53.1 percent from the floor, and they committed just two turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes to carry a 40-23 lead into halftime. Led by Lange, Puget Sound easily won the rebound battle, 46-32.

The Loggers round out their Vegas trip against Simpson on Thursday, Dec. 29. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
