Sorn has impressive debut as Loggers beat Multnomah, 73-61

PORTLAND, Oregon – Giavanna Sorn made a big statement in her first game with the Puget Sound's women's basketball team. The transfer from North Idaho College posted a double-double during the Loggers' 73-61 season-opening win at Multnomah Saturday afternoon.

Sorn scored 25 points and pulled down 14 boards in her Puget Sound (1-0) debut. She shot 12-for-17 from the floor.

Elizabeth Prewitt needed just 14 minutes to net 18 points, and Mara Henderson grabbed nine boards for the Loggers.

Puget Sound set the tempo early and claimed its first double-digit lead of the game, 16-6, less than seven minutes into the game following a trey by Prewitt. A late 3-pointer by freshman Georgia Lavinder gave the Loggers a 25-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Loggers carried a 41-30 lead into halftime.

Overall, Puget Sound 50-percent (30-for-60) from the floor, but the Loggers' 27 turnovers leave plenty of room for improvement.

The first home game of the season is Nov. 17 when the Loggers take on Trinity (Tex.) as part of the Doug McArthur Classic.
