Loggers head east for crucial games at the Whits

TACOMA, Washington – A pivotal weekend awaits the Puget Sound women's basketball team in eastern Washington, as the Loggers play at Whitworth (Jan. 18) and Whitman (Jan. 19).

Conference landscape

Puget Sound enters the weekend with a 4-2 NWC record, which tied with Pacific Lutheran for the third-best conference mark. George Fox is 6-1 in conference, and Whitman is in first place at 6-0. Whitworth closely trails the Loggers and Lutes, as the Pirates are 3-3 in the NWC.


Lange time

Jamie Lange was named the Logger of the Week after she helped lead Puget Sound to two NWC home wins over Willamette and Lewis & Clark. During the fourth quarter against the Pioneers, Lange netted 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Click HERE to learn more.


Power moves

The Loggers have won eight of their last nine games. During that stretch, Puget Sound is outscoring the opposition by 10.4 points per game.


Top five

Elizabeth Prewitt and Jamie Lange both rank top five in the NWC in scoring. Prewitt's 16.7 points per game ranks third, and Lange's 15.6 points per game ranks fifth. Lange is the conference's second-leading rebounder (10.3), and she ranks third in field-goal percentage (50.4 percent). RaeAnn Allen's 52.5 field-goal percentage is third in the NWC, and Prewitt's 41.1 3-point percentage ranks fifth.


Stepping up in conference

RaeAnn Allen is averaging 10.1 points per game this season, and her scoring averaging is 12.3 in six conference games this season. The junior guard is also shooting 54.7 percent from the floor against NWC foes, including 55.6 percent from 3-point range.


Battle on the boards

The top three rebounding teams in the NWC are separated by only 0.4 rebounds per game. Puget Sound is third in the conference with 42.9 rebounds per game, and the Loggers closely follow Pacific Lutheran (43.1) and Whitman (43.3).


Playing percentages

The top three rebounding teams in the NWC are also top three in field-goal percentage, both offensively and defensively. Puget Sound's 44.2 percent mark on offense closely trails Whitman's 44.6 percent. Pacific Lutheran enters the weekend shooting 41.6 percent. The Whitman defense is limiting opponents to 35.8 percent shooting, while Pacific Lutheran opponents are shooting 35.9 percent and Logger opponents are shooting 37.9 percent.


Scouting Whitworth (8-7, 3-3 NWC)

The Pirates enter the weekend with a three-game losing streak at the hands of Whitman, George Fox, and Linfield. Whitworth struggles shooting from the perimeter, as its 26.6 3-point percentage ranks last in the NWC. Camy Aguinaldo is the only Pirate averaging double-digits in scoring (13.3), and Madison Moffat leads the team in rebounding (6.3).


Scouting No. 24 Whitman (12-3, 6-0 NWC)

The Blues broke into this national rankings this week, coming in at No. 24 in the D3hoops.com national poll. Whitman is the highest-scoring team in the NWC (78.1 points per game), thanks in large part to its conference-leading 36.0 3-point percentage. Makana Stone leads the Blues in scoring (16.3), and Mady Burdett closely follows (14.2). Stone ranks fifth in the NWC in rebounding with 9.1 boards per game.
