TACOMA, Washington – Kerri Smith scored eight goals to lead the University of Puget Sound lacrosse team, 15-12, over Linfield on Sunday afternoon.
Kerri Smith has now recorded a goal in all four games this season. To go along with her eight goals, the senior also collected three ground balls, recorded three draw controls, and caused three turnovers. Roxanne Krietzman chipped in three goals of her own, while Andriana Cunningham, Meghan Bacher, Gracie Phillips, and Anna Stenson each scored a goal in the game for the Loggers (1-3, 1-1 NWC).
Puget Sound got on the board first, going up 3-0, before Linfield (0-2, 0-2 NWC) could score a goal. However, the game was even, with the score going back-and-forth. The Wildcats held a 6-5 lead at halftime.
Linfield scored first in the second half, but the Loggers responded with three goals, including two by Smith, to take an 8-7 lead. The Wildcats then scored three consecutive goals, before the Loggers responded in kind. Genna Hughes scored a free position shot for Linfield with 10:30 remaining in the game to tie the score 11-11. The loggers would outscore the Wildcats 4-1 in the final 10 minutes, including a buzzer-beating shot by Krietzman.
Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (1-3) made seven saves. Phillips led the Loggers with six ground balls, while Elena Becker has five and Ali Walker had four. Phillips and Becker each caused three turnovers, while Izzy Amaya recorded four draw controls.
Puget Sound will next host Berry in a nonconference matchup on Saturday, March 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
