Lacrosse set for southern California swing

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's lacrosse team is set to play a trio of California schools this week. The Loggers will take on Claremont-Mudd-Scipps on Thursday, before playing Whittier on Saturday, and Redlands on Sunday.

Puget Sound's last weekend

The Loggers (1-5, 1-2 NWC) fell in a pair of games last weekend. Puget Sound lost, 14-0, in a non-conference matchup against Berry, before falling 14-4, to NWC foe Pacific. Callie Holgate scored three goals in Sunday's game.

Hot Holgate

Callie Holgate has struggled with sickness and injury this season, but with leading scorer Kerri Smith injured, Holgate stepped up on Sunday. The senior scored three goals against Pacific.

Strong Stromberg

Leah Stromberg is in her first year as a goalkeeper, yet leads the Northwest Conference in saves (43). She has played every minute in goal for the Loggers this season, picking up six ground balls.  

Scouting the Athenas (5-2)

CMS is located in Claremont, California, and the team competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Athenas most recently fell to Montclair State, before defeating Whitman, 17-2. The team is scoring 10.00 goals per game. Corie Hack leads CMS with 14 goals scored, while Carly Keene has netted nine goals. Goalkeeper Kate Anello is 3-2, with a goals against average of 6.80.

Scouting the Poets (4-4)

Whittier College is located in Whittier, California, and the team competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Most recently, the Poets defeated Whitman, 23-7, before falling to Wheaton (Mass.), 13-8. Lauren Tudor leads the squad with 24 goals and 12 assists, while Lexie Manor (18 goals, four assists) leads four other players with double-digit goals scored. Goalkeeper Madison Topping has made 70 saves, with an 11.02 GAA.

Scouting the Bulldogs (3-4)

Redlands University is located in Redlands, California, and the team competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs most recently fell to Colorado College, 19-12, before defeating Meiji University, 17-4. Lacey Bjorndal and Stephanie Garrett have each netted 16 goals to lead the squad, while Dulce Moll has recorded 14 goals and seven assists. Goalkeeper Quinn Egan is 3-3 with a 6.92 goals against average and 48 saves.
