Logger lacrosse hosts the Whits this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound lacrosse team puts its winning streak to the test when the Loggers host Northwest Conference foes Whitman and Whitworth this weekend.

Three-straight wins

Puget Sound enters this weekend with a three-game winning streak that pulled the overall record up to a .500 mark (3-3). The Loggers beat Willamette (March 17) before heading to Aurora, Colorado where Puget Sound beat Johnson & Wales (March 19) and Marian (March 20).

 

Conference accolade

Puget Sound goaltender Ally Benko was recently named the NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. Benko has totaled 25 saves in the last three games, including 13 during the Loggers' thrilling 10-9 win over Marian (Wis.) in double overtime. Benko currently ranks second in the NWC in saves (53), and she ranks fourth in save-percentage (43.4 percent).

 

All in the clutch

During Puget Sound's game against Marian, the Loggers trailed by three goals, 9-6, with less than six minutes left in regulation. However, senior Ali Walker netted three consecutive goals to send the game into overtime. Jenna Kisner scored the game-winning goal for Puget Sound in the second overtime.

 

Scoring leaders

Jenna Kisner and Ali Walker are tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 goals, each. Kisner leads the squad in assists with six.

 

Scouting Whitman (3-2, 1-0 NWC)

The Blues' most recent game was a 21-3 triumph over Whitworth (March 27). Sage Ali is the conference's fourth-leading scorer with 20 goals, and Isabel Regonini ranks fourth in the NWC for assists (10).

 

Scouting Whitworth (0-6, 0-3 NWC)

The first-year program is still looking for its first win of 2019. The Pirates' season-high in scoring is five goals, which they achieved against Johnson & Wales, Pacific, and Whittier.
