TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound Director of Athletics Amy Hackett appointed Kim Calkins as the interim head coach for the 2019 Puget Sound women's soccer season.  Calkins previously served as an assistant coach at Puget Sound for the 2016 season.

Calkins has spent the past two years as the Technical Director for the Reign Academy in Tacoma. Prior to her time with the Reign, Calkins was the Sounders Women's head coach for two years. She led the Sounders to first-place finishes in 2016 and 2017.

"I am pleased to have Kim rejoin our program," said Hackett. "She brings with her a wealth of soccer coaching and playing experience. We look forward to having Kim continue the successful history of our program and impart her knowledge from coaching and competing at a high level."

Calkins played collegiately at the University of Portland. She was selected to the All-West Coast Conference First Team in 1998, and she was a member of three Pilots teams that reached the College Cup final four of the NCAA Division-I Championships. She went on to play professionally.  Calkins earned a master's degree at Gonzaga where she also served as an assistant coach.

Calkins takes over a Puget Sound women's soccer program that won the 2018 Northwest Conference title and received an automatic bid for the NCAA Division-III Championships. The Loggers have 15 NWC titles in the past 17 years

Calkins is scheduled to begin her position at Puget Sound July 8.
