Nationally-ranked Loggers take on Pioneers, Bruins in Oregon

TACOMA, Washington - The No. 23 Puget Sound women's soccer team aims to continue its strong start to the Northwest Conference slate this weekend in Oregon with games at Lewis & Clark (Oct. 5) and George Fox (Oct. 6).

Nationally ranked

In the midst of a five-game unbeaten streak, Puget Sound is ranked No. 23 in NCAA D-III according to this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. 

 

Comin' in clutch

Last week at Linfield (Sept. 28), Puge5 Sound trailed by one goal at halftime, but the Loggers came up big in the second half. Ava Cholakian scored her third goal of the season in the 48th minute. Twenty minutes later, Kylee Roath headed the game-winning goal off a corner kick from CeAnn Romanaggi to lift the Loggers to a 2-1 victory.

 

Scoreless Tie

On Sunday (Sept. 29), Puget Sound reached a scoreless tie at Willamette. The Loggers were outshot, 25-18, but Chaylea Tome made a season-high 11 saves to keep Willamette out of the net. 

 

NWC Standings 

Puget Sound is 3-0-1 in the NWC with 10 points. Willamette also has 10 points with a 3-0-1 record, and Pacific Lutheran has 12 points with a 4-0 mark. 

 

Scouting Lewis & Clark (3-4-1, 2-2 NWC)

The Pioneers faced some tough competition last weekend, ultimately falling 2-0 to Pacific Lutheran (Sept. 28), and 3-0 to Linfield. Julia Markmann is fifth in the conference in shots with 20, and Megan Sawyer is tied for ninth for save percentage with .667. 

 

Scouting George Fox (3-3-1, 1-3 NWC)

The Bruins earned their first win in conference play with a 3-1 victory over Whitman (Sept. 28) only to fall 3-0 to Whitworth the next day (Sept. 29). Maggee Hodgon is ranked fifth in conference with three goals on the season. Goalkeeper  Brooke Jones is third for goals-against average with a 0.39 mark.
