LA VERNE, Calif. - Playing their first non-conference match of 2010, the Puget Sound Loggers fell to the La Verne Leopards, 6-3, in a NCAA Division III women's tennis match on Thursday in La Verne, Calif.
The Loggers got a win at the number two doubles spot at Ada Yu (Salem, Ore./McKay) and Maddie Thiesse (Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Family) earned an 8-6 decision over Zulema De La Torre and Katrina Tormos. The Leopards managed wins in the other two positions as ULV took the 2-1 lead into singles play.
In individual competition, sophomore Madison Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) earned the win at the second spot, winning the first set before Jessenia Garcia retired in the second set. Thiesse also won her individual match, taking the third spot 6-0, 6-2 over Megan Dean. ULV managed straight-set victories in the other four positions to earn the 6-3 win.
The Loggers will be in action again on Friday when they travel to take on La Sierra.
