ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team earned its first win away from its home courts with an 8-1 defeat of Western New England College on Tuesday.
The Loggers (4-4) clinched the match early, winning five of six singles matches over the Golden Bears (6-10). Maddie Thiesse and Logan Thompson each earned 6-1, 6-0 wins at the #2 and #4 spots, respectively. Jenna Gerdsen won a third match for the Loggers with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Caitlin Hughes. Marissa Friedman cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Ide and Madison Holtz clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Nicole DiSimone.
Jessica Haffner defeated Ada Yu 6-3, 6-3 for the Golden Bears first and only point.
In doubles, Holtz and Thiesse paired up to defeat the Bears' DiSimone and Hughes 8-3 while Friedman and Thompson took down Linda Mustafa and Christina Barbarisi 8-5. Yu and Gerdsen completed the doubles sweep for the Loggers with an 8-2 win over Lori Pagliano and Jessica Haffner.
The Loggers will continue their spring break trip with a match against Washington U. tomorrow in Orlando.
