TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team opened up the 2012 season with a 8-1 win over Pacific Lutheran in a nonconference match between the rivals. Three Loggers made their debuts with wins.
The Loggers (1-0) swept the doubles point with wins in all three matches. Kira Kearsley and Allison Embernate defeated Leah Newall and Tina Aravold 8-5 in the No. 1 match while All-NWC duo Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman defeated Cora Wigen and Valery Jorgenson by the same score. Ada Yu and Maddie Thiesse won 8-2 to complete the sweep over Allison McClure and Catherine Miolla.
Kearsley also won her first singles match in the No. 1 slot 6-3, 6-2 over Newall. Wigen won the Lutes (0-2) in the no. 2 spot 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 over Thiesse.
Jenna Gerdsen beat Aarsvold 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot and Thompson defeated McClure 6-0, 6-1 to keep the Loggers rolling. Friedman earned another win for the Loggers 6-1, 6-1 over Miolla.
Josie Dow also made her Logger debut with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the no. 6 spot.
The Loggers are at Pacific on Saturday for a noon match with the Boxers.
