TACOMA, Washington – Winners in three of its last four matches, the Puget Sound volleyball team returns to Oregon for Northwest Conference battles at Pacific (Oct. 4) and George Fox (Oct. 5).

Logger of the Week

Sophomore Jordan Holman was named the Logger of the Week following Puget Sound's back-to-back wins at Willamette and Lewis & Clark. Holman posted 11 kills and 12 digs during the Loggers' 3-0 win at Lewis & Clark (Sept. 27). She followed that performance with a career-high 18 kills and 20 digs as the Loggers outlasted Willamette, 3-2 (Sept. 28). Holman's 144 kills rank sixth in the Northwest Conference, and her 175 digs rank seventh. She is one of only three NWC players with at least 140 kills and 140 digs. 

 

Got five on it

Six of the Loggers' 16 games this season have reached five sets, and the Loggers are 3-3 in those contests. Puget Sound have five-set wins over Lewis & Clark, UC Santa Cruz, and Texas Lutheran. The five-set losses came against Wheaton (Ill.), Cal Lutheran, and Whittier.

 

Can she dig it?

Yes she can. Freshman libero Chloe Akiona-Bannan ranks third in the NWC with 268 digs. She had a season-high 37 digs against Whittier (Sept. 14). This season Akiona-Bannan was named to the Puget Sound Premiere All-Tournament team and the Leopard Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Puget Sound ranks second in the NWC for blocks per set (1.90). Melanie Siacotos' 0.98 blocks per set leads the Loggers and ranks third in the conference.

 

Scouting Pacific (10-4, 3-1 NWC)

The Boxers have won eight of their last nine games, as the lone loss during that stretch was a 3-1 result against Whitworth (Sept. 27). Mila Ivkovic (.293) and Elika Unti (.288) have the top two hitting percentages in the NWC. As a team, the Boxers' .204 hitting percentage leads the conference.

 

Scouting George Fox (4-10, 1-4 NWC)

The Bruins enter the weekend with three consecutive losses, and four losses in their last five contests. Sophia Lawrence leads the NWC in digs (271) and digs per set (6.02). As a team, George Fox's 10.57 assists per set are second in the NWC, trailing only Pacific.
