TACOMA, Washington – The nationally-ranked Puget Sound women's cross country team begins the 2018 season when the Logger men's and women's squads host the Puget Sound Invitational Saturday, Sept. 1, at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Wash.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced earlier this week that the Puget Sound women are ranked No. 3 in the West Region, and No. 32 in the country.
A pair of All-Northwest Conference sophomores aim to lead the Logger women through five races this fall. Samantha Schaffer was the 2017 Northwest Conference Freshman of the Year, while she and classmate Rachael Metzler picked up All-NWC honors during their first year with the Maroon and White.
Emery Bradlina, a national-caliber track student-athlete, returns to the cross country team after studying abroad in the fall of 2017.
On the men's side, key returners include senior Liam Monaghan, and juniors Jack Monaghan and Basil Engledow. Head coach Mike Orechia is especially excited for freshman Colin Monaghan to make an immediate impact.
Represented in the Puget Sound Invitational this Saturday are teams from Pacific Lutheran, Saint Martin's, Green River Community College, Olympic College, Club Northwest, and Seattle Running Club.
