David Hammond is entering his fifth season as head coach of The University of Puget Sound Rowing teams in 2026-27.
In his debut season in 2023, he returned the Lamberth Cup to campus for the first time in five years, sparking a dominant streak that has seen the Loggers retain the trophy for four consecutive years and counting. His second season in 2024 was highlighted by guiding the women's team to its first Northwest Conference Championship since 2015, producing three All-Conference selections and charting a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Hammond's peers voted him NWC Coach of the Year in 2025 after leading the program to back-to-back conference titles.
He replicated that success in 2026, earning his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor after the Loggers stood out as the top team in the Pacific Northwest and were one of eight institutions nationwide selected to the NCAA Rowing Championships in Gainesville, Georgia.
Hammond arrived to Puget Sound from California, where he was the head coach for UC-Davis women's rowing since 2016. He also spent time as the head coach for the Penn Athletic Club Rowing Association in Philadelphia. Hammond led the UC-Davis women's varsity-eight to American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) grand finals in 2022, 2019, 2018, and 2017. As a team, the Aggies placed third in the 2017 ACRA Championship.
Hammond rowed collegiately at Washington State University.
