TACOMA, Wash. - A slow start by the Puget Sound Loggers and
hot-hitting Lewis & Clark Pioneer team allowed the Pios to
collect the 3-1 victory over the #13 Loggers, 25-21, 25-21, 17-25,
25-20, in a Northwest Conference volleyball match on Saturday night
at Stadium High School in Tacoma, Wash.
In the first set, the Loggers were plagued by poor hitting as
they hit -.079 from the field. The Pios took advantage of the
poor start by Puget Sound, taking set one 25-21.
In the second set, the Loggers turned things around a bit,
throwing down 10 kills to go with five attack errors but the Pios
again outhit UPS again, putting down 12 kills to go with six
assists as they headed into the break with a 2-0 win following a
25-21 set two victory.
The Loggers finally pulled things together in the third set,
putting down 13 kills with no errors for a .433 hitting
percentage as Puget Sound collected the 25-17 set win to hold off
the sweep.
The Pios finally closed it out in the fourth set after hitting
.250, their best frame of the match, as the Loggers couldn't come
back and L&C took the 25-20 set win to take the match, 3-1.
The Loggers were led by 11 kills each from freshmen Erika Green
(Draper, Utah/Juan Diego) and Brynn Blickenstaff (Eagle,
Idaho). Jamee Fred (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) added 22
assists and Stephanie Harvey (Yakima, Wash./Eisenhower) chipped in
19 assists in the losing effort.
The Pios were led by a match-high 14 kills from Kelsey
Clark. Margaret Dowling added 11 kills while Lou Ohki led all
played with 22 digs on the night.
The Loggers are back in action next Friday when they travel down
to Forest Grove, Ore. to take on Pacific.
