PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) scored
her 14th goal of the season in the eight minute as the fifth-ranked
Puget Sound Loggers shutout the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 1-0, in
a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at
Griswold Stadium in Portland, Ore.
Levien's goal came at the 7:13 mark following a pass from
freshman Abby Goss (Spokane, Wash./University). Levien was
able to draw out L&C keeper Kate MacDougall before firing the
ball into an empty net for the game's only goal. The Loggers
kept offensive pressure on the Pios all afternoon, out shooting
Lewis & Clark, 19-5, while forcing MacDougall to make 11 saves.
Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made two saves on
the day to collect the shutout, her fourth of the season. The
Loggers, winners of the last six NWC titles, now hold an
eight-point lead over second-place Whitman following the first half
of conference play.
The Loggers will open up the second half of conference play on
Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Parkland, Wash. to take on
Pacific Lutheran. Game time with the Lutes is set for 3:30
p.m. on PLU Soccer Field.
