FOREST GROVE, Ore. - It took a comeback effort to do it but when
the final whistle blew, the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers
clinched the Northwest Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA
Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with a 3-2 win
over Pacific at Lincoln Park Stadium on Saturday in Forest Grove,
Ore.
The Loggers fell behind in the 14th minute when Pacific's Sam
Lee scored her first goal of the season after firing in a shot from
35 yards out. Junior Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) tied the
game up in the 38th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out.
In the second half, the Boxers again took the lead in the 49th
minutes when Ashley Kanda dropped a pass into the box and Jenny
Novak finished for a 2-1 Pacific lead. The Loggers again tied
it up in the 57th minute when freshman Jenny Moore (Kent,
Wash./Kentwood) sent a pass in to Fiona Gornick (Portland,
Ore./Grant) who scored the equalizer. Moore played hero in
the 83rd minute, breaking away from the midfield and firing a shot
past Erin Ichimura for the game winner.
Logger keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made
four saves in the win.
The Loggers will stay in Oregon on Sunday when they travel to
McMinnville, Ore. to take on Linfield.
