TACOMA, Wash. - In their final home match of the 2008 season,
the 18th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers were stunned by the Whitman
Missionaries, 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-9, 11-15, in a Northwest
Conference volleyball match on Saturday evening at Stadium High
School in Tacoma, Wash.
In the first set, the Loggers were plagued by a variety of
errors. With four service errors and nine attack errors by
UPS, Whitman was able to take the early lead in the match with a
25-20 win. The Missionaries did much of the same in the
second set as the Loggers continued to have trouble serving the
ball, again committing four service errors as the Missionaries
again collected the 25-20 set victory.
The Loggers used a good run in the middle of the set to pull
ahead 20-14 and Puget Sound was able to hold off a late Whitman run
for a 25-23 set three victory. In the fourth set, it was all
Loggers as they took an early 6-1 lead and continued to push the
lead, holding a 21-5 advantage at one point before forcing the
fifth set with a 25-9 set four victory.
In the final set, the two teams continued to battle but in the
end, Whitman used nine kills to sneak out the 15-11 fifth set
win.
Puget Sound was led by 18 kills from Lindsay Denman (Kenmore,
Wash./Inglemoor) and 16 from Kalli Kamphaus (Manson, Wash.).
Jamee Fred (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) put up 43
assists while Juliette Witous (Sonoma, Calif.) dug out 20
balls.

Miller. Katie Richards put up 42 assists while Graves
finished with 18 kills.
The Loggers hit the road next week to wrap up the 2008 regular
