WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Thanks to a pair of goals by 2007 NWC
Offensive Player of the Year Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.), the
fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers stayed undefeated in Northwest
Conference play with a 2-0 win over the Whitman Missionaries on
Sunday afternoon in Walla Walla, Wash.
Despite outshooting the Missionaires 14-2 in the first half, the
Loggers (6-1, 4-0 NWC) were unable to get on the board in the first
half as the teams headed into the break without a goal.
In the second half, Levien didn't waste much time getting UPS on
the board, firing in a shot from 30 yards out following a pass from
Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) that got past
Whitman keeper Courtney Porter that gave the Loggers a 1-0
lead. Levien scored her eighth goal of the season in the 88th
minute after a shot from Fiona Gornick (Portland, Ore./Grant) got
away from Porter following a save and Levien cleaned up the rebound
and shot from five yards out.
Logger keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) was
forced to make just one save in the 90 minutes played. Puget
Sound finished the game with 24 shots, compared with just six for
Whitman.
The Loggers return home on Saturday to take on Linfield.
Game time with the Wildcats is set for Noon at Peyton Field at
Baker Stadium in Tacoma.
