#7 Loggers Drop Two on Final Day of UPS Premier

TACOMA, Wash. - Facing the two teams immediately above them in the national rankings, the seventh-ranked Puget Sound Loggers just couldn't find a way to pull off the upsets, falling to #6 Trinity (Texas) and #5 La Verne on the final day of the Puget Sound Premier volleyball tournament on Saturday at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.

#6 Trinity 3, #7 Puget Sound 1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15)

Facing off against Trinity, the Loggers dropped a tough set, 26-24, in the first frame but bounced back to collect the 25-23 win in the second set.  The Tigers continued to improve in the third and fourth sets to collect the four-set win.  Brynn Blickenstaff (Eagle, Idaho) led the Loggers with 14 kills and Kalli Kamphaus (Manson, Wash.) added 12 but it wasn't enough to stop the sixth-ranked Tigers.  Trinity was led by 14 kills from Ay Mittelstaedt and 40 assists from Caroline Keener.

#5 La Verne 3, #7 Puget Sound 1 (11-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-14)

After an unreal first set that saw the Loggers hit .500 and limit the fifth-ranked Leopards to just 11 points, La Verne played like the team that everyone knew they were, winning three straight sets to collect the victory and finish 4-0 in the tournament.  Kamphaus led the Loggers with 13 kills while junior Lindsey Denman (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) added 12 kills in the loss.  La Veren was led by 16 kills from Crista Jones and 15 from Brianna Gonzales.  Yesenia Lopez finished with 46 kills on the match.
