TACOMA, Wash. - Led by a strong shooting night, the Puget Sound
Loggers opened up Northwest Conference play with a 64-47 win
over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a NWC women's basketball
game on Friday night at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
In the first half, the Loggers were led by nine points from
Claire Ely (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) and eight apiece from
the freshman duo of Jocelyn Riordan (Lake Forest Park,
Wash./Shorecrest) and Courtney Blume (Lacey, Wash./River
Ridge). The Loggers made 56.5% of their attempts in the first
half.
In the second half, the Loggers weren't quite as warm from the
field but the Pios had a tough time hitting their shots, making
just 28.6% of their second-half attempts as the Loggers collected
the 64-47 win.
The Loggers were led by 14 points from Riordan. Ely
finished the game with 13 points and three steals. Karen
Chase (Yakima, Wash./West Valley) had a strong game in the points,
scoring 12 points and bringing down seven rebounds in the win.
The Pioneers were led by 12 points from Kimberly Kittell and 10
from Kelly Vega. L&C was just 20-of-64 for 31.3% from the
field, including one-of-nine from behind the three-point arc.
The Loggers will look for another win on Saturday night when
they play host to Linfield. Tip-off with the Wildcats is set
for 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
