TACOMA, Wash. - One day after clinching their eighth-straight
Northwest Conference title, the fourth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers
wrapped up the 2009 regular season with a 1-0 win over the Linfield
Wildcats in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday
on East Athletic Field.
The Loggers (18-1-0, 15-1-0 NWC) dominated the match offensively
in the first half, outshooting the Wildcats 10-2 but Linfield
posted four saves to keep the match in a scoreless tie. In
the second half, the Loggers finally got on the scoreboard in the
56th minute when Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd)
was given a penalty kick opportunity and successfully completed the
attempt.
Senior Sarah Krabacher (Sandpoint, Idaho) made her first
collegiate start, collecting an easy shutout as neither of the
Linfield shots made it on frame.
The Loggers will now wait until Monday morning for the official
release of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship
bracket. The 63-team field is expected to be released at 7:00
a.m. PST on NCAA.com.
