TACOMA, Wash. - A pair of second half goals was enough top give
the top-ranked Puget Sound Loggers a 2-0 shutout over the Whitworth
Pirates in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday
afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
After a scoreless first half, the Loggers, ranked first in the
latest D3soccer.com Top 25, got on the board early in the second
period while Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) drew pressure from
the Whitworth keeper and passed the ball over the Kelly Anderson
(Centennial, Colo./Littleton) for the easy goal and the 1-0 lead in
the 49th minute. Puget Sound made it 2-0 in the 55th minute
when Christine Isabella (Salt Lake City, Utah/Winthrop) took the
pass from Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and fired
a shot through the Whitworth defense for her second goal of the
season and a 2-0 Logger victory.
Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made two saves on
seven Whitworth shots to collect the shutout. Callie
Bergstrom was strong in net for Whitworth, making seven saves but
allowing the two goals to take the loss. Puget Sound outshot
Whitworth, 20-7, on the game and held an 8-5 advantage on corner
kicks.
The Loggers will look to stay perfect on the 2009 season on
Sunday afternoon when they play host to Whitman, beginning at Noon
