McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Connecting on just one of 19 attempts from
beyond the arc, the Puget Sound Loggers couldn't get their shots to
fall as they lost to the Linfield Wildcats, 93-73, in a Northwest
Conference men's basketball game on Sunday evening in McMinnville,
Ore.
The Loggers trailed from the very beginning as Linfield's K.C.
Wiser hit a jumper just 30 seconds into the game and the Wildcats
never looked back. Puget Sound managed to tie the game twice
in the opening minutes but the 'Cats quickly took over once again,
building a nine-point lead with 12:07 left in the first period and
hitting double-digits with 5:42 left to play on a Jon Weber free
throw that put Linfield up, 38-28. The Loggers didn't let the
lead get any bigger as Linfield took a 49-41 lead into the halftime
break.
In the second half, the Loggers shooting woes continued as
Linfield slowly pulled out of reach. The lead hit 14 with
17:02 left to play and Puget Sound couldn't get back within 10
points as the Wildcats collected the 93-73 victory. The
Loggers shot 37.5% from the field, making 24 of 64 attempts,
including just one of 19 from three-point range.
Puget Sound was led by 16 points off the bench from Kaleb
Shelton (Tacoma, Wash./Lincoln). Austin Boyce (Kent,
Wash./Kentwood) added 15 points while David Aberg (Seattle,
Wash./Roosevelt) chipped in 14 points. Colin Koach (Portland,
Ore./Franklin) scored 10 points in the losing effort.
Linfield was led by 23 points from Cody Tesoro. Wiser
added 18 points and eight rebounds while Brady Martin added 13
points off the bench. Joel Paul added 11 points while Kris
Rainwater added 10 points in the win.
The Loggers return to Tacoma on Wednesday night when they play
host to Pacific Lutheran. Tip-off with the Lutes is set for
8:00 p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse.
