WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Freshman Jackie Harvey had a breakout
night to lead the University of Puget Sound volleyball team to a
3-1 (23-25, 31-29, 25-19, 25-9) win over Whitman. Three different
Loggers hit double digits in kills and five Loggers hit double
digits in digs to key the victory.
Harvey led the Logger attack with a career-high 24 kills and a
.340 hitting percentage. Harvey also contributed 16 digs to the
cause. She was joined by Jamie Ecklund and Brynn Blickenstaff with
15 and 11 kills, respectively.
Only Juliette Witous had more digs with 18 in the match. Kris
Sumida added 15 digs while Stephanie O'Connor had 11 digs.
Erika Greene recorded yet another double-double with 12 digs and 44
assists.
The Missionaries (5-13, 2-7) took the first set to set up an
upset of the Loggers (13-4, 8-1). However, the Loggers fought off
four set points in the second set to eventually win the set 31-29.
After that it was all Loggers as they cruised to a 25-19 victory in
the third set and a 25-9 victory in the fourth set to clinch the
match.
As a team, the Loggers hit .239 in the match, highlighted by a
.652 hitting percentage in the fourth and deciding set. The Loggers
attack made no errors in the last set and earned 15 kills on 23
attempts.
The Loggers also tallied eight service aces as a team, led by
Sumida's three aces. Ecklund added two more aces.
The Loggers continue their eastbound journey tomorrow when they
travel to Spokane to take on Whitworth.
