PORTLAND, Ore. – The momentum swung like pendulum, but the
University of Puget Sound volleyball team walked away with its
fourth straight victory, 3-2. The Loggers (10-4, 5-1 NWC) defeated
the host Lewis & Clark in five sets, 25-18, 25-16, 23-25,
19-25, 15-10.
The Loggers came out of the gates on fire as they easily won
the first set over the Pioneers 25-18. They combined for a .462
hitting percentage while the Pioneers hit just .188 in the set. The
Loggers hit .182 in the match compared to the Pios .105.
The Loggers rolled through the second set with a 25-16 win and
another solid hitting percentage of .273. Despite outhitting the
Pios in the third set, the home team was able to sneak out a 25-23
win to extend the match.
The Loggers ran into trouble in the fourth set, committing 12
attacking errors in a 25-19 loss. The Loggers then capitalized on
Pio miscues in the fifth set to capture them match.
The Loggers once again compiled more blocks than their
opponents with seven team blocks to the Pios four.
The Loggers return home on Wednesday to host Pacific Lutheran
at 7 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
