TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound volleyball
team captured its ninth consecutive victory on Friday with a sweep
of visiting Linfield. The Loggers (15-4, 10-1) kept their winning
streak alive with a strong serving and blocking night.
The Loggers were a force at the net as they tallied nine team
blocks to the Wildcats' (8-11, 6-5) four. Molly Gibson
totaled seven blocks (one solo and six assisted) on the night to
lead the way while Jackie Harvey tallied five block assists in two
sets. Harvey also had four kills and Gibson had three.
The Loggers serving also remained tough, led by three aces from
Stephanie O'Connor. Juliette Witous and Jordan Bird also
tallied a pair of aces a piece and Erika Greene added one ace.
Green also had a match-high 33 assists to keep her season average
above 10 assists per set.
The Loggers cruised to a first set victory behind a .333 team
hitting percentage in the first set. The Wildcats came out
determined to even the match as they built a 17-9 lead. The
Wildcats later had an 18-12 lead when the Loggers went on a 13-3
run to end the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match and completely
steal back the momentum.
In the third set, the Loggers' frustrated the Wildcat
hitters, holding the 'Cats to a .000 hitting percentage while
hitting .200. They controlled much of the set and held on for a
25-18 victory in the set to clinch the sweep.
Both Tara Hill and Kelsey Ludin totaled eight kills to lead the
Wildcats. Hill also had 15 digs for a doubl-double in the match.
She was joined with double digit digs by Bethany Dickey (14) and
Samantha Lau (16).
Natalie Monro had a match-high 11 kills for the Loggers while
Witous had a strong night at libero with 24 digs.
The Loggers will host Willamette tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Memorial
Fieldhouse.
