Tacoma, Wash. – The off-and-on rain wasn't enough to slow down the University of Puget Sound women's soccer on Saturday as they defeated George Fox 5-0. The Loggers (15-1-2, 12-1-1) scored four goals in the first half to gain control of the match early.
It took a little over four minutes for the Loggers to strike first. Abby Goss found the back of the net in the fourth minute to put the Loggers on the board. Theresa Henle and Molly Winterrowd both earned assists on the play after Henle's cross was headed to Goss in front of the goal. Goss struck again in the 39th minute when she buried a rebound to put the Loggers up 4-0.
In the 10th minute, senior Serwaah Fordjour struck for her second career goal. Kayla Boortz passed it to Fordjour who lined up a shot. Her shot deflected off a defender and into the net to put the Loggers up 2-0.
Boortz had a career day with five points in the match. She scored her first goal five minutes after earning an assist. Winterrowd possesed the ball in the box and found Boortz at the top of the 18. Boortz chipped a shot over the goalie's head and buried it into the net. She struck once again in the 52nd minute for the only goal of the second half. Goss, who also scored five points, crossed the ball over to Boortz. Boortz buried a shot from 25-yards out to give the Loggers the 5-0 advantage.
Three seniors earned multiple points on Senior Day at East Field. The win sets up a showdown weekend to determine the NWC champion. The Loggers visit Pacific on Friday and will face second-place Linfield on Saturday.
