TACOMA, Wash. – A five-set thriller ended with a victory for the University of Puget Sound volleyball team on Saturday as it defeated Lewis & Clark 3-2. The Loggers (17-5, 12-2) and Pioneers (9-14, 5-8) engaged a see-saw match until the very end with the Loggers keeping their home winning streak intact.

Natalie Monro had a match-high 20 kills to lead the Loggers and Juliette Witous had 29 digs. Stephanie O'Connor also added five service aces, including the match's final point.

The Loggers looked to rebound from Friday's loss with a controlling 25-20 victory in the first set, outhitting the Pios .278 to .086. The Pios capitalized on Logger mistakes nd turned the tables in the second set as they held on for a 25-22 win. In the third set, the Pios hit .353 and held the Loggers to .111 to cruise to a 25-15 victory and 2-1 lead in the match.

Katherine Fiedler led  the three-pronged attack with 13 kills. Alicia Callejo-Black and Jennifer Dowdy each added 11 kills to the cause. Four different Pioneers also reached double digits in digs.

The momentum once again shifted in the fourth set with the Loggers' backs against the wall. They came out swinging in the fourth set and pulled away late for a 25-15 win to tie the match at 2-2. The Loggers hit .355 in the set behind an emergence from Brynn Blickenstaff. Blickenstaff posted 15 kills and a .317 hitting percentage in the match.

The fifth set was tight throughout with the set tied at 13-13 before the Loggers inched away. The Pioneers actually outhit the Loggers in the set .206 to .194. With the set tied, Monro pounded the last of her 20 kills to put the Loggers up 14-13. O'Connor went back to serve match point and promptly delivered a service ace to secure the Logger victory before a boisterous crowd.

The Loggers will finish their 2010 regular season next week when they visit Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday and Pacific on Saturday. Both matches are "must-wins" for the Loggers, who are tied with Whitworth for the NWC lead.
