Loggers 1-2 Punch Delivers Big Victory Over Poets

PORTLAND, Ore. – Kelsey McKinnis and Jocelyn Riordan each scored 20 points as the University of Puget Sound women's basketball team won its second s=consecutive game 76-44 over Whittier. Riordan led the Loggers (2-1) with 23 points while McKinnis posted her third consecutive 20-point game with 21 points.

Both Riordan and McKinnis were named to the All-Tournament team for their excellent play this weekend in the Bon Appetit Tournament at Lewis & Clark.

"We are very excited to have gotten two wins on the road," said head coach Loree Payne. "Our team played with heart and passion all weekend and left it all out on the floor."

Riordan had her best game of the year on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. McKinnis was equally as impressive on 9-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The Loggers shot 39.3 percent as a team and held the Poets (0-3) to 29.3 percent shooting, including a 1-for-15 mark from three-pointers. The Loggers also forced 23 turnovers from the Poets and grabbed a 49-41 rebound advantage. Sarah Stewart led the Loggers with 13 boards.

As a team, the Loggers also shot 87.5 percent of their free throws, hitting 21-of 24 attempts from the charity stripe. Riordan was 4-of-4 to lead the team.

Kourtney Zilbert scored 19 points to lead the Poets, but no other Poets reached double digits. Tina Merlino added a game-high five assists for the Poets.

The Loggers return to Memorial Fieldhouse on Sunday to take on Trinity at 6 p.m..
