Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound men's basketball team fell victim to a hot shooting Cal Baptist in an 82-66 loss on Wednesday. Cal Baptist shot 57.1 percent in the game to boost the Lancers (7-5) to victory. Kaleb Shelton scored 14 second half points to lead the Loggers (5-6).
Shelton's 14 points in the second half gave him 19 points in the game and boosted a late Logger rally. Down by as many as 22 points late in the game, the Loggers on a 12-6 run. However, it wasn't quite enough to erase the deficit.
The Lancers built a 10-point lead at halftime behind 20 first-half points from Jerome Lowe. Lowe shot 8-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three-point range to pace the Lancers. He finished with a game-high 23 points. Five Lancers finished the game in double-digits for points.
Late in the first half, the Loggers looked to get right back in the thick of things. After falling into a 10-point hole, Edric Egberaure hit back-to-back shots to close the gap to four points. The Loggers were down 30-26 with six minutes to go.
However, the Lancers regained momentum on a three-pointer by Kevin Deeb and finished the half on 13-7 run. As a team the Lancer shot 62.5 percent and 60 percent from long range.
The Loggers face a tough road trip in a week and a half when they head to east to resume NWC play. The Loggers will visit Whitman on Jan. 7 and Whitworth on Jan. 8. They finished their nonconference schedule with a 3-6 record in nonconference games but are still 2-0 in NWC games.
