Loggers Take Seesaw Battle Over Pacific

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound men's basketball team was pushed to the final buzzer but came away with 66-63 victory over Pacific on Saturday. Riggs Yarbro posted his first double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds and was one of three Loggers in double digits.

The Loggers (4-3, 2-0 NWC) went into halftime with a 32-30 lead but faced a strong comeback attempt from the Boxers (2-4, 1-1 NWC) in the second half. The second half featured eight lead changes with the Boxers taking their final lead at the 8:54 mark.

The Boxers never led by more than two points in the second half as the Loggers continued to fight back before ending the game on a 7-4 run over the final five minutes.

"We never got rattled and kept our composure whenever they took the lead," said Yarbro. "Even though they were small leads, we still battled back, got the lead back and held on for the win. It was good for the team."

Kaleb Shelton led the Loggers with 13 points and Julian Fernandez added 12 points and seven assists to boost the Loggers to victory.

LeMar Anglin was a big reason for the comeback with 19 points and six rebounds as well as one block. Carson Bartlett also scored nine of his 13 points in the second half to contribute to the Boxers comeback attempt. Adam McElwee added 11 points.

With the game tied at 59-59 with five minutes left, Fernandez and Yarbro scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Loggers a 63-59 lead, whcich they would not relinquish. Shelton scored the final three points for the Loggers, including a basket that gave them a 66-61 lead with just over one minute left.

"I'm very happy with our effort at the end and very happy with our focus," said head coach Justin Lunt. "I don't know what the other scores are but we're 2-0 in conference and I know there are only a few teams in that position. We're in a good spot, but we have to continue to get better every day."

The Loggers remain home next week for a makeup game with Evergreen St. on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The game, originally scheduled for Nov. 23, was postponed due to the snow storm in western Washington.
