Loggers Win Streak Reaches Six With Win Over Geoducks

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – Kelsey McKinnis and Jocelyn Riordan combined for 33 points as the University of Puget Sound women's basketball team defeated Evergreen St. 58-44 on Wednesday. The Loggers (6-1) have now given up 45 points or less in each of their last six games.

Kelsey McKinnis lifted the Loggers to a 29-18 first half lead over the Geoducks (1-7) with 11 of her 16 points in the opening half. Her first basket of the game capped a 10-0 Logger run to open the game. She went on to score 16 points in the game with five rebounds and a pair of assists.

"Our captains, Kelsey, Jocelyn and Lindsay, find a way to dig down and take control of games and the younger ones follow," said head coach Loree Payne. "They've really established their leadership roles and everyone else has bought in."

It was Jocelyn Riordan who stole the show in the second half. She opened up the scoring with a three-pointer that gave the Loggers the initial lead, which they would not give up. Rirodan went on to score a game-high 17 points, including 10 second-half points as the Loggers kept the Geoducks at bay.

Shekia Hill led the Geoducks with 13 points but just 3-of-12 from the floor. As a team the Geoducks shot 32 percents, including 0-for-3 in three-point attempts. The Logger defense once again held tight as the Geoducks didn't score over the first five minutes or the final three minutes.

Sarah Stewart led the Loggers on the boards with seven rebounds, including six on the defensive end. The Loggers pulled down 58 boards as a team to the Geoducks' 44.

The Loggers will head to northern California on Dec. 19 for three games in three days against opponents from the Golden State at a tournament at Menlo College. The Loggers will face Occidental on Dec. 19, Menlo on Dec. 20 and UC Santa Cruz on Dec. 21.
