SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Puget Sound women's
volleyball team went 1-1 at the Trinity Fall Classic today. The
Loggers lost their first match in straight sets to No. 13
Christopher Newport, but rebounded with a sweep of East Texas
Baptist in the afternoon.
Christopher Newport (L, 3-0)
The Loggers lost a heartbreaker in the first set 25-23, and
ended up on the wrong side of a sweep. Natalie Monro and Brynn Blickenstaff each pounded 11 kills for the Loggers. As a team, the
Loggers also collected six blocks to Christopher Newport's
three.
However, Christopher Newport outhit Puget Sound .232 to .141 to
contribute to their cause.
East Texas Baptist (W, 3-0)
The Loggers responded in a big way with a dominating victory
over East Texas Baptist, 25-17, 25-11, 25-15. Stephanie O'Connor had nine service aces to highlight the Loggers
victory. Jackie Harvey added one ace and seven kills to give the
Loggers 10 aces in the three-set match.
Blickenstaff and Jaime Ecklund had 10 kills a piece with Ecklun
hitting .833 to pace the Loggers attack. Three different Loggers
also reached double digits in digs en route to the victory.
The Loggers face a tough test tomorrow in a pair of ranked
opponents. The Loggers square off the No. 14 Southwestern tomorrow
morning before taking the court against No. 22 Trinity in the
afternoon.
