TACOMA, Wash. – Home really was sweet for the Puget Sound
volleyball team as it celebrated its 2010 home opener with a 25-23,
25-10, 26-24 sweep of Whitman College on Friday. The victory
is the third in a row for the Loggers and also was the
conference-opener for both teams.
In the first set, the Loggers (6-3, 1-0) came from behind to
overtake the Missionaries for a 25-23 win despite hitting .079 as a
team. However, the Loggers found their groove in the second set,
hitting .500 while holding the Missionaries (3-6, 0-1) to a .000
hitting percentage. The Loggers once gain had to battle back and
forth with the Missionaries in set three but had to earn one extra
point to put the Missionaries away.
Brynn
Blickenstaff and Natalie Monro each
recorded their seventh consecutive match with double digits in
kills. Blickenstaff pounded out 13 kills while Monro added 10 more.
Juliette Witous
had 14 digs in the winning effort and Erika Greene served up 31
assists.
The Loggers also out blocked the Missionaries 9-7 en route to
the conference win.
The Loggers will quickly turn around and host Whitworth Saturday
at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Fieldhouse.
