TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound volleyball started hot but
couldn't hold off a furious comeback by Whitworth as the
Pirates emerged victorious 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-9. The
Loggers fought hard for wins in the opening sets but couldn't
grab the match-clincher as Whitworth surged ahead.
Brynn Blickenstaff pounded out 21 kills for her third 20+ kill
match of the season. Jordan Bird and Natalie Monro each reached
double digits in kills for the Loggers with 11 and 12,
respectively. Bird added 15 digs while Juliette Witous led the team
with 19.
In both the first and second sets, the Loggers fought back from
late deficits to capture the set and eventually take control of the
match. In the third set, the Loggers came out firing and took the
early lead. However, the Pirates turned the tables and mounted a
comeback of their own.
With the third set win in their pocket, the Pirates gained all
the momentum and pillaged the match away from the Loggers. In both
the fourth and fifth sets, the Pirates used all the momentum to
build early leads and keep the Loggers at bay.
The Loggers will hit the road again after a brief homestand when
they continue their NWc schedule at Linfield on Friday at 7
p.m.
