Strong Second Half Lifts Loggers Past Lutes

PARKLAND, Wash. – Val Middleton and Jocelyn Riordan hit back-to-back three-pointers to end the first half and the University of Puget Sound women's basketball team never looked back in a 66-41 win at Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday. Riordan scored eight of her team-high 15 points in the second half to lead the Loggers past the Lutes.

With the Loggers up 24-23 in the first half, Middleton hit a three to push the lead to four and Riordan followed it up with a three at the buzzer to give the Loggers a 30-24 lead at the half. Middleton finished with five points and five rebounds.

The Loggers rebounded from a loss at Whitworth on Saturday night behind a strong rebounding performance. Lindsay Layland led the way on the boards with 10 rebounds on her way to a double-double. She also had 10 points. The Loggers outrebounded the Lutes 53-35 in the game, including 23-9 on the offensive glass.

The Loggers held the Lutes to just 32.1 percent shooting and 20 percent from three-point range. No Lute scored in double digits as Shelly Kilcup led the team with seven points. 

The Loggers conclude their four-game road trip concludes on Saturday when they take on Linfield at 6 p.m. in McMinnvile, Ore.
