Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound men's basketball team suffered a heartbreak on Saturday in a 64-61 overtime loss at Linfield. Anthony Gittens continued to improve with the first double-double of his Logger career in the narrow loss.
Gittens scored a career and game-high 17 points while adding 10 rebounds and one block. Six of his 10 rebounds came on the offensive glass as he led the Loggers (5-10, 2-4 NWC) to a 16-10 advantage in offensive boards.
Gittens gave the Loggers a 19-17 lead with 6:44 left in the first half, which the Loggers would hold and extend to a 32-26 lead at halftime. The lead was increased to nine points when Gittens completed a three-point play at the 19:30 mark.
The Wildcats (7-8, 3-3 NWC) chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 45-45 with 9:25 remaining in regulation. However, the Loggers with a run and extended the lead back to nine points with 3:42 remaining.
The Wildcats, who won in double overtime last night, embarked on another dramatic comeback. They continued to chip away at the Logger lead again and Cory Hendrix tied the game at 58-58 with 52 seconds remaining. Neither team could connect on their final attempts to win in regulation as the game was pushed into overtime.
In OT, the Wildcats continued their run and outscored the Loggers 6-3 to take their second consecutive overtime victory.
Linfield was led by 16 points from K.C. Wiser and 14 points from Sergio Rosario. They shot 55 percent in the second half to pace the come back win.
The Loggers shot 41.9 percent in the first half to build the six-point advantage but shot 34.8 percent in the second half and did not connect on a three-pointer.
Kaleb Shelton contributed 10 points to the Loggers cause, shooting 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Edric Egberaure also added nine points.
The Loggers return to Memorial Fieldhouse after a long, four-game road trip next weekend for a pair of NWC contests. The Loggers host George Fox on Friday at 8 p.m. and Lewis & Clark on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Tacoma.
